545 miles.
7 days.
One good cause.
One of the personal challenges that I have chosen for myself in 2011 is to do the AIDS LifeCycle — a 7-day, 545-mile ride on June 5-11 from San Francisco to Los Angeles benefitting two of the largest HIV/AIDS organizations in the country. It’s been over ten years since I’ve been on a bicycle, so I have many miles of training ahead of me. Also, it’s my goal to raise $5000 for this worthy cause.
Please Support Me
I hope you'll make a fully tax-deductible donation to help me meet my goal. It's a tough year for non-profits and the San Francisco AIDS Foundation (SFAF) has had a hard time funding vital services for people living with AIDS. At the same time, a high unemployment rate has resulted in more people needing these services. This ride is one of them main sources of income for SFAF, and I'm proud to ride for them.
About The Ride
With about 2,000 other riders, I'll be spending a week on the road. It's a fully supported ride with safety monitors, medical support, bike technicians, and lots of other volunteers. We ride 70-100 miles a day and camp in various locations at night. Check out the Life on the Event feature on the Lifecycle site.
The San Francisco AIDS Foundation (SFAF) is the sole beneficiary of my fundraising. SFAF offers a comprehensive array of critical services such as financial benefits counseling, needle exchange, client advocacy, housing assistance and the California AIDS Hotline (800-367-AIDS), annually serving 120,000 individuals impacted by HIV and AIDS. In addition, the SFAF runs the Pangaea Global AIDS foundation that provides treatment and vaccine research in Sub Saharan Africa. For more information, check out the SFAF site.
