Genentech Access Solutions is a group within the company works with patients and their reimbursement issues so that they can have access to much needed medicine. Access Solutions wanted to updated their online process that physicians use to register their patients into Genentech’s reimbursement programs.
The process involved working across all the brands in the business as well as multiple creative agencies and IT partners. It was a challenge trying to keep track of multiple streams of feedback and keep everyone on the same page as far as a design direction.
Working with the lead business analyst on the project, I developed a lo-fidelity simulation using iRise, a prototyping tool. This allowed us to develop the interaction design iteratively with our business clients.
When it came time to do some usability testing, I developed a clickable HTML prototype based on the latest iRise simulation. The testing was conducted by an outside agency. The HTML prototype was also used by the creative agency as the starting point for their design.
The simulation allowed the business to visualize business process issues and quickly provide feedback. The ability to demonstrate ideas allowed the team to iterate and come decisions quickly. The website went live during the summer of 2010 with the new registration screens available to registered physicians only.
