STARI
User experience design for custom web application, 2007.

At Genentech, when an accident occurs, it must be reported and go through root cause analysis with the Environment, Health and Safety team. There was a pre-existing application for reporting called STARI (System for Tracking and Reporting Incidents), however it was outdated and did not fully capture the risk assessment process.
STARI is a system that needs to be accessible by all of the company. Multiple types of users had to be considered — for example, frequent vs. infrequent visitors, managers vs. individual contributors.
Multiple rounds of gathering and analyzing user feedback contributed to the success of this project. I conducted an initial usability testing with the current website to validate the key painpoints for users. Using this feedback, I developed wireframes that aligned with the new business process and addressed key usability issues. The wireframes were used in the next round of usability testing to ensure the team was going in the right design direction. The wireframes were also a way to communicate decisions to the business team and keep everyone on the same page. In the end, I produced the final HTML, stylesheets and graphics used for the system.
STARI 2.0 was successfully launched in Fall 2007.
The graphics I designed were used in the application as well as used for promotional items such as jackets and notebooks.
